How to become a FedRAMP assessor

The official path is organizational: join or found an independent assessment service, obtain A2LA Cybersecurity Inspection Body accreditation, obtain and maintain FedRAMP Recognition, and appear on the Marketplace. scm.cc skills training prepares people to read 20x rules and grade evidence; it cannot make them assessors.

Educational resource only. scm.cc is not a FedRAMP Recognized Independent Assessor (3PAO) and is not FedRAMP-authorized; it grants no authorization, certification, or assessment outcome. FedRAMP.gov is the authoritative source. This is not legal advice.

Official requirement

Assessors MUST obtain and maintain accreditation through the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) Cybersecurity Inspection Body Program to qualify for FedRAMP Recognition (REC-IAS-ACC). FedRAMP only accepts independent assessments performed by FedRAMP Recognized independent assessment services.

Technical detail

Recognition rules retrieved 2026-10-11 also describe maintenance (A2LA R311, surveillance, reassessment, qualifying assessments). Personnel qualifications live in the organization's A2LA records. 3PAO is the older term.

How to implement

1) Read FedRAMP.gov assessors + Recognition rules. 2) Use marketplace.fedramp.gov. 3) If you want skills practice, take the free fundamentals lesson, then the paid catalog. Do not treat an scm.cc certificate as Recognition.

This is scm.cc skills training. Completing a course or receiving an scm.cc training certificate does not make you a FedRAMP Recognized Independent Assessor, is not a FedRAMP credential, and is not government recognition.
