FedRAMP 20x Assessor Fundamentals
Skills preparation for people who will evaluate FedRAMP 20x evidence: what independent assessment is, what official Recognition actually requires, and how 20x changes the review posture. Not a path to FedRAMP Recognition.
Educational resource only. scm.cc is not a FedRAMP Recognized Independent Assessor (3PAO) and is not FedRAMP-authorized; it grants no authorization, certification, or assessment outcome. FedRAMP.gov is the authoritative source. This is not legal advice.
This is scm.cc skills training. Completing a course or receiving an scm.cc training certificate does not make you a FedRAMP Recognized Independent Assessor, is not a FedRAMP credential, and is not government recognition. Official recognition requires A2LA accreditation (REC-IAS-ACC) and FedRAMP Recognition. FedRAMP.gov is the authoritative source. This is not legal advice.
Who it is for
Junior assessors inside a Recognized Independent Assessment Service, compliance engineers who will sit with an assessor, and career-changers researching the official path.
- Explain Recognition vs skills training using official FedRAMP wording.
- Name A2LA accreditation (REC-IAS-ACC) as the Recognition prerequisite.
- Describe why 20x review focuses on underlying validation processes, not screenshot packets.
- Navigate the scm.cc hub (classes, KSIs, SDR, evidence) without treating it as official.
Lessons
- What 20x independent assessment is — and is notFree preview
FedRAMP relies on independent assessment services (the role formerly called 3PAOs) to perform independent verification and validation. FedRAMP only accepts assessments from services that are FedRAMP Recognized. This lesson is orientation, not a qualification.
- Official recognition requires A2LA (REC-IAS-ACC)
Becoming a FedRAMP Recognized Independent Assessor is an organizational accreditation path. The Recognition rules require A2LA Cybersecurity Inspection Body accreditation (REC-IAS-ACC). A training course cannot substitute for that.
- Classes, paths, and when an assessor is required
20x expresses authorization status through Certification and Classes A–D. Whether a given path requires an independent assessment is a FedRAMP rule, not an scm.cc decision. This lesson shows where to look — and what not to invent.
- 20x vs Rev5: process evidence over screenshots
20x-specific independent-assessor responsibilities tell reviewers not to rely on screenshots, configuration dumps, or other static output except when evaluating the accuracy and reliability of the process that generated them.
- How this training maps to (and does not replace) official recognition
Use this course as skills preparation: vocabulary, citations, and grading practice on labeled test data. The official path still runs through A2LA and FedRAMP Recognition.

Questions
- Is this a FedRAMP or A2LA credential?
- No. Completing the course yields an scm.cc training certificate only. Official Recognition requires A2LA accreditation (REC-IAS-ACC).
- What is indexable before I pay?
- This landing page, the lesson previews, and the free intro lesson body. Paid lesson bodies are omitted from the public HTML — the same for humans and crawlers.
